William Henry Shumake, age 91 passed away Friday, January 8th at his home in Cottontown, TN. Henry was born March 29, 1929 in Robertson County, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his wife Anna Ruth McDonald Shumake, parents William Albert Shumake and Mattie Jane Autrey Shumake, brothers Claude and Hugh Shumake, grandchildren Stacey Shumake Collins, Brian Apple, Jason Apple.
He is survived by his children, Larry (Karen) Shumake, Leroy (Mary) Shumake, Anna (Johnny) Davis, Judy (David) Apple, Mark (Susan) Shumake, Bobbie Jo Shumake, 10 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and brother and sisters-in-law.
Henry loved his family and provided for them over the years using his many talents. His jobs included electrician, (working on the construction of Old Hickory Dam), driver for Rail Oil, owner of Shumake's Grocery in Cottontown, salesman for Mormon Feed, and substitute mail carrier for US Post Office in Cottontown. Despite the other jobs Henry was a farmer at heart and loved working his farm for over 65 years. He enjoyed serving Sumner County Farm Bureau and acted as director for many years.
He was a US Army Veteran and proudly served during the Korean War. He was a past Master of the Cherry Mound Masonic Lodge and member for over 55 years and was a member of the Scottish Rite. He was a member of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
Visitation is Sunday January 10th between 4:00-8:00 pm at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, White House, TN with a Masonic Service at 7:00.
Pallbearers will be Scott, Adam, Phillip, and Justin Shumake, Aaron Davis, Jeremy Apple, Justin Green and Micah Lashley.
Funeral will be held Monday, January 11th at 2:00 at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church , Cottontown, Tennessee with Bro. Larry Pedigo and Bro. Phillip Shumake presiding. Visitation from 12:00 until service at 2:00 pm
