Velma Comel (Irving) Frizzell, 86, of Goodlettsville, TN passed away Sunday February 16, 2020 at her home. Born September 16, 1933 in Edwards, MS, she was the daughter of the late Roswell Irving and Marie (Donelson) Irving. Velma was also preceded in death by three siblings, Roswell, Minnie Ruth Irving, and Embry Irving. An x-ray technician and instructor, she spent her career working for the Department of the Air Force, the Veteran's Administration and the Department of Defense. She received her initial training at Kansas City General Hospital, Kansas City, MO in 1955. She also spent considerable time at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. She was a military instructor of x-ray technology and earned service commendations and performance awards during her career. Her late husband was career military and together they had travelled extensively overseas and at one time had resided in Japan. Velma made friends and connections easily. Many of those she taught have kept in touch with her over the years. She also gathered friends where she attended church at the Madison Church of Christ. Other things Velma enjoyed were gardening and nature in general. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Pam Hays; two sisters, Luella Williamson and Roberta; and her brother, Dr. William Irving as well as extended family and a host of friends. Visitation will be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville, Wednesday, February 26th from 10 AM to 12 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will follow Wednesday at 12 PM with burial at Beech Cemetery, Hendersonville, TN.
