Thomas L. “Tommy” Russell, 68 of Goodlettsville passed away Monday September 6, 2021, at home with his family by his side. Born in Nashville, January 7, 1953 Tommy had been a life-long area resident. He was the son of the late Thomas L. Russell, Jr. and Evelyn Tate Russell. Tommy was also preceded in death by a sister, Pat Russell; and a brother, Jay Russell. Tommy had retired from Sheet Metal Local #177 in 2013. He was the local’s business manager at the time of his retirement and had spent his working career in the sheet metal trade. He entered into a four year apprenticeship after graduating from high school. During his career, Tommy had taught Sheet Metal apprenticeship for over 30 years. He attended McFerrin Missionary Baptist Church. He also had a talent and love of woodworking. He loved to build things and spend time in his shop. Tommy also loved cars and enjoyed working on them. He loved sports and was an avid Vanderbilt baseball fan. Most important to Tommy, however, was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patty Cherry Russell; his daughter Jaime Lassiter (Brian); his son, Rusty Russell (Julie Kennedy); and grandchildren, Clara Lassiter and Celia Lassiter. Visitation will be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville on Friday from 9 am until 12 noon. A celebration of life service will commence at noon followed by interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Rusty Russell, Brian Lassiter, Terry Hayes, Philip Patterson, Rickey Osburn and Chris Lassiter serving as pallbearers.
