Roberta Merle Ochs

Roberta Merle Ochs, 93, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, (formerly of Ottawa, Kansas) passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023.  Born April 10, 1930, in Scott City, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Robert Henry Beasley and Almeta Merle Gates Beasley.

Roberta graduated from Garden City High School in the Class of 1948.  Shortly after graduation, she married Elmer Clarence Ochs on Sunday, August 29, 1948.  She worked for J.C. Penney for 42 years, fifteen of those years as catalog manager.  Roberta was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa, Kansas.  There she was in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Quilters' Group, served on the church council, was head of the funeral dinner committee, served on the Pre School Board, served on the Parish Fellowship Board, and helped with vacation Bible school for many years.  She also belonged to the Sunflower Piece Maker Quilt Club in Ottawa.  Since moving to Hendersonville, Tennessee, in 2021, she had been a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in White House, Tennessee.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Elmer Clarence Ochs; sisters Rowena Darlene Beasley Robertson, Elizabeth Rollene Beasley Moler, and Betty Maureen Beasley Ochs; brother Robert Eugene Beasley.

She is survived by her son Larry (Vanessia) Ochs; grandchildren Jason (Sara) Ochs and Justin (Kelly) Ochs; great grandchildren Cameron (Camrie) Ochs, Karmyn Ochs, Weston Ochs, Ava Ochs, and Lawson Ochs; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, November 13, at 4 pm at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in White House, Tennessee.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Beasley, Dale Beasley, Ronnie Whitehurst, Jason Ochs, Justin Ochs, and Bob Payeur.  Thursday, November 16, a visitation will be held at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas, from 6 pm until 7 pm.  A graveside service will take place 10 am Friday at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.  

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Roberta's name to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church 4095 US, US 31 W, Cottontown, TN  37048.
