Peggy Irene Royster, age 95, of Cottontown, TN, departed this life on July 9, 2025, in Gallatin, Tennessee. Born on April 18, 1930, in Nashville, TN. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert Richard and Ruby Olivia Miles, sister Mrs. B.F. Gourley (Elizabeth), and niece Jan Howard. Peggy is reunited in heaven with her loving husband of 47 years Ira Melvin Royster. She is survived by her son Robert (May) Royster and her daughter Olivia (James) Dotson, and her grandchildren Christina (Zack) Moore, Michael (Faviola) Royster, Robert (Marie) Parks, and Richard Parks. She also leaves behind her seven great grandchildren: Aidan, Adler, Nathaniel, Jiada, Harlen, Angel, and Ethan. Peggy also leaves behind her niece Beverly Murphy, and nephews Larry Gourley and Paul (Gwen) Gourley.
A proud graduate of the East High School Class of 1948, Peggy's journey began with a curious heart and an unyielding spirit. Throughout her life, she wore many hats, most notably as a dedicated school bus driver for the Sumner County School system, a position she cherished for 30 years up until her retirement. In that role, she not only transported children but also watched over and guided them, embodying the care and warmth she radiated. In addition to her career, Peggy took great pride in the ownership and operation of Second Creek Resort in Hartsville, TN, from 1959 to 1964. This venture showcased not only her entrepreneurial spirit but also her knack for hosting and connecting with others. Among her many talents, she particularly liked cooking at the restaurant there. Her family recalls her chicken and dumplings, roast, and chess pies which were a staple at family gatherings. At the restaurant she was well known for her spaghetti and meatballs. Her cherry tarts were a hit amongst her church family.
Peggy was a woman of strong Christian faith; with her faith being one of the many cornerstones of her life. She was a devoted member of the White House United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for over a decade.
Visitation services will be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home and Cremation Services in White House, TN, on July 15, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on July 16, 2025, at White House First United Methodist Church, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The funeral service, a time for remembrance and celebration, will commence on July 16 at 10:00 AM, followed by her burial at White House Memorial Gardens at 11:00 AM.
