Odis was known for his sociable personality, characterized by a firm handshake and a warm smile that could light up any room. With his charming personality, he spent several years as a diligent salesman at Sears, where he specialized in selling machinery, appliances, and tools. His commitment to his career was matched only by his dedication to his family: Dormon’s daughters and grandchildren grew up surrounded by the inviting sound of his music and piano, where they practiced songs.
A man of many talents, Dormon was not only skilled at the piano but also played the guitar, mandolin, and violin. Music was an integral part of his life; he enjoyed listening to bluegrass and church hymns, which reflected his deep-rooted faith as a church deacon. In his youth, he even had the honor of singing in a quartet. In his time away from music, he explored the great outdoors, often fishing, water skiing, golfing in the senior league, and camping alongside his grandchildren. He cherished these moments, creating lasting memories that will be fondly remembered by his family.
He is mourned by his children, Ellen Roberts and Mary Dillard. His grandchildren, Nina (Jon) Cavitt, Fabian (Elizabeth) Story, and Valerie Story, as well as his great-grandchildren, Fletcher, Sabrina, Thomas, and Landon.
He was predeceased by his cherished wife, whom he married on Valentines Day, Betty Sue Langford-Grubbs, his parents Charlie and Viva, his siblings Wilene, Laura Mizell, and Ellis, and his beloved grandchildren, Allison and Clint, as well as his two sons-in-law Harlie and Duane.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Odis’ life with visitation at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home and Cremation Services in White House, TN, on January 18, 2026, from 5 PM to 8 PM, and again on January 19, 2026, from 11 AM to 12 PM.
