Memorial Service for Both Matthew and Lucy Musante
After more than five decades of marriage, Matthew Aloysius Musante and Lucy Alma Musante passed away peacefully just days apart; Matthew on June 17, 2026, at the age of 84, and Lucy on June 19, 2026, at the age of 85. Their nearly lifelong partnership was defined by service to others and a shared joy in the simple blessings of family.
Matthew was born on June 6, 1942, in San Mateo, California, and Lucy was born on October 3, 1940, in Nashville, Tennessee. Though their paths began in different places, they built a life together that would touch generations. For 53 years, they shared a marriage of deep friendship and love, and created a home filled with love, laughter, hard work, and unwavering support for those around them.
Matthew dedicated much of his professional life to overseeing naval ship repairs as a superintendent, earning the respect of colleagues through his strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to excellence. Even after retirement, he remained active and engaged, always finding ways to serve others. A faithful member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Matthew devoted countless hours to volunteer work through Meals on Wheels, Room in the Inn, and the Nashville Rescue Mission, believing deeply in the importance of helping those in need.
Lucy’s life was marked by her devotion to family and her remarkable ability to care for others. Known for her loyalty and generous spirit, she was the person family and friends turned to for sharing confidences and receiving guidance, comfort, and encouragement. She celebrated the accomplishments of others and created an environment where everyone felt welcomed, valued, and loved.
Lucy's passions reflected her creative nature. She loved reading, quilting, music, dancing, and challenging herself with word games. Even in later years, music remained a constant source of joy and comfort in her life. Matthew, meanwhile, found fulfillment in service, faith, and mentoring others. His grandchildren especially cherished the traditions he created - camping and being outdoors, the nicknames he bestowed, and the memorable driving lessons he considered a rite of passage.
Above all else, family was the center of their lives. Together, Matthew and Lucy raised four children: Terri (James) Guess, Lynda “Sue” (John) Heflin, Kristin (Billy) Pegram, and Anthony (Daylyn) Musante. They were proud grandparents to eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and purpose to their lives. Their home was a gathering place where wisdom was shared, traditions were created, and love was freely given.
Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Ellenore Musante, and Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Olivia Givens. They were both preceded in death by their son-in-law Billy Pegram.
They leave behind a large and loving family, including Matthew’s siblings Maureen Morris, George (Virginia) Musante, and Margaret (Eric) Schreiber, and Lucy’s sisters Barbara Avery, Mary Thompson, and Martha Bowden, along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones whose lives were enriched by their presence.
The story of Matthew and Lucy Musante is one of enduring love, selfless service, warm hospitality, and devotion to family. Their lives remind us that a meaningful legacy is built through everyday acts of kindness, sacrifice, generosity, and love. Though they will be deeply missed, the values they lived by and the memories they created will continue to guide and inspire all who knew them.
After 53 years side by side, their family takes comfort in knowing that they are together once more.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of your choice.
