AKIN, Mary Madeline - of Goodlettsville on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at age 87. Preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Ethel Newton; daughter, Mary Jane Day Lipscomb; husband, former Metro Police Major Malcolm Akin, Jr. Survived by her grandchildren, Scott Lipscomb, Sandra Hanson (Kenneth), Chris Lipscomb (Heather); great-grandchildren, Paul and Cassandra Lipscomb, Ashlee, Amber and Zachary Hanson, Meghan Lipscomb; devoted niece, Pat Rawls and great-nieces, Pam Newman, Patrina Rawls; great-nephew, Thomas Rawls. Mrs. Akin was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church and was formerly President of Metro Police Ladies Auxillary. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas M. Rawls officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at Nashville National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m. Monday and again from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
