Joseph Vernon Hawk, 68, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee passed away Friday, May 6th, 2022 at his home. Born in Athens, Ohio, Joe was the son of the late Joseph Virgil Hawk and Verta Belle (Dunfee) Hawk. He graduated from Federal Hocking High School and shortly after enlisted in the US Army. Joe retired from the US Army in 1995 after twenty years of service. Job opportunities brought Joe and his wife to middle Tennessee where they settled in Goodlettsville. Joe then began a second career with the US Postal Service in Goodlettsville from which he retired after twenty years in 2016. Joe was an “ingenious” problem solver and “go-getter.” Those traits served him well during his military career, his work in maintenance at the Goodlettsville Post Office, and throughout his life in general. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, playing the mountain dulcimer as well as other musical instruments, jigsaw puzzles, and target shooting. In his youth he loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting. He enjoyed football and had become a Titans fan while living in Tennessee. Joe also loved to travel, especially if it involved gatherings with his family. Joe is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lu Ann (Jewell) Hawk; his brothers-in-law, Stephen (Georgia) Jewell and Richard (Stacy) Jewell; an aunt, Virginia (Dunfee) Huffman; an uncle, Richard L. Hawk; numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews who he cherished as his own; and extended family and friends. Joe’s celebration of life services and interment will be held in Ohio at a later date.
