Joan Caudell

Joan Elisabeth Caudell, age 95, of Nashville Tennessee (formerly from Indianapolis, Indiana) passed away on Wednesday, November 23, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. Born September 28, 1927, she was the daughter of Roy and Mary Edwards, and sibling of Gene, Marjorie and Catherine Edwards, all deceased. She grew up around the farming community of LaFountain, Indiana.
After high school she attended nursing school at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, receiving her RN degree and later attended Indiana University for a Bachelors of Science degree in nursing. She worked many years at Methodist and later Winona Hospitals in Indianapolis, then later in administration at hospitals in Houston, TX and Denver and Pueblo, Co. She retired from the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville in 1994, where she served as Director of Ambulatory Surgery and as an instructor. She returned to Indiana and retired a second time in 2010, after serving as a Nurse Consultant in the Family and Social Service Administration for the state.
Joan was a member of the Methodist Hospital Nurse Alumni Association, as well as a founding member of the Sangri de Christo chapter of the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN). Prior to retuning to Nashville in 2016, she attended Christ the Savior Lutheran Church in Fishers, Indiana, where she was an active member of the Ladies Bible Study Group.
Joan is survived by her sons Alan J. and Paul M. (Kim) Caudell, both of Nashville, as well as sister-in-law Ruth Edwards of Arcadia, Indiana, and a large extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren. She enjoyed listening to music, reading, gardening and decorating her home. She was also a great traveler, visiting many places in the US and outside the country.
A memorial service will be held in Indiana, time and place to be announced at a later date.
