James Edward Nickell, 74, died Thursday, March 15, 2018. Born April 5, 1943 in Bellefontaine, Ohio, James was the son of the late George and Veta (Fry) Nickell. He is survived by his wife, Annabelle (Reames) Nickell; four children, George Nickell, David Nickell (Deanne), Amber Cole (Lee) and Amy Ritchie; three step-children, James Weeks, Aaron Weeks and Angela Pope; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin D. Nickell (Jean); aunts and uncle, Rosemary (Fry) Snyder, Nina (Fry) and Nolan Church; and extended family members and friends. James served in the US armed forces for 36 years. He served 8 years on active duty and later served 28 years in the reserves retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. He was an aircraft mechanic in the service and an auto mechanic in civilian life. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, James loved being out on his boat fishing in his free time. He also enjoyed computers. He and his wife Annabelle settled in Madison in 1982. A Life Celebration Service will be held Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 2 PM at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, 127 N. Main St., Goodlettsville with interment with Military Honors to follow at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. A visitation hour will be held at the funeral home Saturday from 1 - 2 PM prior to the service.
