Fred Cope

December 20, 1946 — October 14, 2025

Nashville, TN

Fred Cope, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, at the age of 78.

Born on December 20, 1946, Fred lived a life marked by service, faith, and unwavering love for others. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, exemplifying his lifelong dedication to helping those around him. His career spanned decades in ministry, where he faithfully served churches in North Carolina, Kentucky, Michigan, and Tennessee. Later, he brought the same care and integrity to the real estate and mortgage business for more than 20 years.

Fred was a graduate of David Lipscomb High School and David Lipscomb College, where he was deeply influenced by mentors, teachers, and coaches who helped shape his strong Christian faith. He was also a proud member of Lipscomb’s cross country and track teams, reflecting his determination and team spirit.

With an outgoing personality and a passion for storytelling, Fred brought warmth and joy to every room he entered. His stories—often filled with humor, wisdom, and memories—were a gift to all who knew him. He had a unique ability to connect with people, making each person feel seen and valued.

Fred’s greatest joy came from his family. He cherished his role as “Grandad” and took immense pride in his grandchildren: Andrew Davidson, Evelyn Paddock, Ezra Cope, Nate Davidson, Ben Paddock, Ember Cope, Corbin Paddock, Luke Davidson, Lila Paddock, and Jayden Cope. His love, wisdom, and laughter will live on in their hearts forever.

At the center of Fred’s life was his steadfast faith in Jesus Christ. He had a deep desire to share that faith with others. He was especially passionate about the Christian education and the Joy Bus ministry, a heartfelt outreach to bring children to worship and introduce them to the love of Christ.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Cheri Cope; his children, Alan (Kristy) Cope, Leanne (Bert) Paddock, and Sheron (Adam) Davidson; his adored grandchildren, Andrew Davidson, Evelyn Paddock, Ezra Cope, Nate Davidson, Ben Paddock, Ember Cope, Corbin Paddock, Luke Davidson, Lila Paddock, and Jayden Cope; and his brother, Ronnie Cope. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jo Reba Cope and Robert Cope, and his brother, Wayne Cope.

A visitation to honor Fred’s life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. Burial will follow at White House Memorial Gardens.

Fred leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service. His kindness and devotion to others will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.

His life verse, which he often quoted, was Micah 6:8

He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”
