CHILDERS, Eugene, Age 82 of Brentwood, TN, died April 27, 2010 at Alive Hospice. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Lesta Mae Childers, daughter, Pamela Phillips David, son, Michael E. Childers Paula, four grandchildren, Sarah C. Wills Jason, Julie C. Young Ben, Samuel T. Wolfe Lisa, Jonas M. Wolfe and two great grandchildren, all of Nashville, TN.
Mr. Childers was born on September 8, 1927, at Clintwood, VA, the son of Mary and James W. Childers, and spent most of his early school years in Pikeville, KY. He served in the U. S, Navy shortly after WW 2, and married Lesta Mae Tackett of Wales, KY, after being honorably discharged. He is a graduate of the University of Florida with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemistry. He was employed for 40 years by the DuPont Company, initially as a research chemist, with most of his career being in R & D management in 5 U. S. locations and in the Netherlands and Japan. He has several chemical process patents and authored articles in a major chemical publication. He retired at the end of 1989 from DuPont Japan, having served there 3 years as Technical Manager for "Mylar" Polyester Film, moving to Brentwood with his wife to be near their children. He was a Member Emeritus of the American Chemical Society. He was a member of Woodmont Baptist Church in Nashville since 1990, having served as a deacon, teacher of the Agape Sunday School Class and member of the Joy Senior Adult choir. He and his wife have been members of Baptist churches since 1947, serving as officers, teachers and youth leaders. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 29, 2010 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 9090 Highway 100 Nashville, TN 37221, and again on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Woodmont Baptist Church, 2100 Woodmont Blvd., Nashville, TN 37215 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 A.M. at the church, led by Drs. Jon Roebuck and J. L. Ford. Interment will follow at Harpeth Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alive Hospice 1718 Patterson St Nashville, TN 37203-2926 or Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633.
