Obituary

Dennis Mack Amick, age 74, of Nashville, TN, lovingly known as “Dennie,” passed away on June 30, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. Born on March 25, 1952, in Nashville, Tennessee, Dennis’s life was one defined by kindness, humor, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.

Growing up in Nashville, Dennis was a proud graduate of Antioch High School, class of 1971. His high school years were marked not only by his academic accomplishments but also by his dedication to athletics; he ran track, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors and staying active. These experiences shaped the person he became—one who loved spending time outside, tending to his yard, and ensuring it was always neat and tidy.

Dennis built a successful career with Metro Public Schools, where he worked diligently in maintenance until the time of his retirement. He was known for his reliable work ethic and the care he brought to every task. Beyond his professional achievements, Dennis’s heart belonged to his family. His family was his proudest accomplishment, and their memories together are countless and cherished.

A fun-loving spirit and a self-proclaimed jokester, Dennis had a gift for making others laugh and found joy in bringing smiles to those around him., even sometimes by creating funny faces resembling Donald Duck. He was endlessly caring and giving—a sweet man with a soft spot for animals and always quick to offer kindness to the world.

Music was another great passion of Dennis’s life. He loved playing the drums and listening to his favorite artists, especially The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Glen Campbell. Taking his daughter, Lisa, to her very first concert to see Duran Duran instilled the love of music in her and created a lifelong memory. Lisa would go on to repay her father in 2016, when she had the opportunity to take him to see Ringo Starr at the Ryman. Cars were also a source of joy and bonding, especially with his late brother Michael, who was also his best friend. The two shared many hours working and laughing together, forever united by their mutual love for automobiles.

Traveling with his wife, Becky, was also a treasured pastime. The two would travel to Memphis as often as they could, frequently visiting “The King,” Elvis Presley’s Graceland. Dennis’s legacy lives on through the little things: the laughter he inspired, the music he played, and the care he showed for both people and pets. Among the many treasured memories, his daughter, Renee, fondly recalls Saturday mornings spent watching cartoons together while Dennis cooked breakfast—a small tradition that speaks to his warmth and attentiveness as a father.

Loved deeply and remembered fondly, Dennis Mack Amick leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and loyalty. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jean and Richard Amick, and he is reunited in heaven with his brother and best friend, Michael Amick. He is also preceded in death by a number of his fur babies, particularly Sebastian the kitty cat.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Becky Amick, daughters Lisa (Rob) Dubell and Renee (Daniel) Heth. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Robert, Ashton, and Danny Michael, brother Mark (Sharon) Amick, and his nephews Matthew and Seth.

The family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Dennie’s name to the End Alz Association or to The Parkinson's Foundation.

Family, friends, and all who knew Dennis are invited to gather and honor his memory at a Memorial Gathering and Memorial Service, both to be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Goodlettsville, located at 127 N Main St, Goodlettsville, TN 37072.
