David Wilson was born September 13, 1938 in Goodlettsville.
He was preceded in death by parents, John Bruce and MazeIle (Sloan) Wilson, sister and brother-in-law, Joy and Bert Trichel, mother and father-in-law Mary and Victor Light. He is survived by wife Vicki Light Wilson, daughters Tracy (David) Brooks and Cari (Glen) Garrett, grandchildren Anna and CaIlee Brooks, Gracyn Garrett Wilbanks (James), Carson and Wilson Garrett, sister Jan Lanius and brother Wayne (Bobbie) Wilson.
He was a graduate of Goodlettsville High (1956) and MTSU (1961). He was employed by Third National Bank, State Farm Ins., Neuhoff Packing Co., Weyerhaeuser Co. and Roger Smith Ins. He spent 40 years in service to his community of Goodlettsville as a member of Planning Commission, City Commissioner, Vice-Mayor, Mayor, City Manager, Chairman of Industrial Development Board and Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce. He was named Tennessee City Manager of The Year in 1998. He was a past member of the Jaycees, Civitan and Rotary. Rotary named him a Paul Harris Fellow on two occasions. He was a graduate of Leadership Nashville (1991) and served on the boards of TML, MTAS, Skyline Tristar Medical Center, Dan & Margaret Maddox Charitable Fund, Leadership Goodlettsville and Metro Charter Revision Commission.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Connell Memorial UMC. Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Cole and Garrett Funeral Home and 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
Active Pallbearers will be David Brooks, Glen Garrett, Carson Garrett, Wilson Garrett, James Wilbanks, Sam Embry, Vic Wilson, Brent Lanius, Brian Lanius, and Daniel Tinnon.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Builders Sunday School Class, Jim Thomas, Rob Wheeler, Ben Bratcher, Gary Moore, Joe Adams, Jeff Cordell, Jack Baker, Craig Hutfilz, Billy Fields, David Haverly, James Hicks, Paul Lamb, Billy Dorris, Carl Sloan, Tim Ellis, Tom Tucker, Richard Pope, Bill Terry, John Wright, Tom Moore, Walt Ponder, Ken Speakman, Karl Nixon, and Ken Massey.
David loved his family, his community and his church, Connell Memorial Methodist. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Connell UMC Youth Fund or College Fund, Goodlettsville Fire Department Kids Christmas or Alive Hospice.
