Charles Edward Sherman, affectionately known as "Skip," passed away on May 17, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee. Born on March 23, 1954, in Amsterdam, New York, Skip made Nashville his home since 1978, where he became a cherished figure in the community through his exceptional craftsmanship and warm spirit.
A gifted stonemason, Charles Sherman left a lasting legacy etched across Nashville with his distinctive starburst designs that can be found in various beloved locations throughout the city. His hands shaped more than stone; they built a community marked by artistry and dedication. His career was a testament to his skill, creativity, and passion for his craft.
Skip was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He served with honor at the Pensacola Naval Station and aboard the USS Lexington, experiences that reflected his commitment, discipline, and love of nation.
Beyond his professional achievements and military service, Charles was a man who treasured the simple joys of life. He was an avid NASCAR and Tennessee Titans football fan. His connection to nature was evident in his love of gardening and the countless hours he spent canoeing along Tennessee’s rivers, embracing the tranquility and beauty of the outdoors.
More than any title he held, Skip was beloved as a son, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and partner. Those who knew him fondly remember him as the life of the party, a man whose back porch was a gathering place filled with stories, laughter, and warmth. His ability to bring joy and light to every room was only rivaled by the depth of love he carried for those dear to him.
Mr. Charles Edward Sherman is preceded in death by his father Charles J. Sherman, mother Donna R. Faber Sherman, stepmother Lorraine W. Sherman, son Chad E. Sharman Perkins, brother Joseph C. Sherman, and nephew Jason R. Sherman and Chad Joseph Perkins. He is survived his longtime partner Lorrie Sherman, son Daniel (Malarie) Sherman, daughter Nichole Sherman, grandchildren Chase (Tabitha) Sherman, Chad L. George, Jr., Madalyn G. Sherman, Zoe N. Sherman, Hunter R. Sherman, Lizzie Perkins, CJ Perkins, Kyler Perkins, Kristen, Austin and Aaron Briley, great grandchildren Alaia Perkins, Jake Brown, and Jasper Rhett. He is also survived by his brothers: Richard (Nancy) Sherman, John (Barbara) Stevenson, Peter (Stacy) Stevenson, and stepdaughter Lorena Gregory, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Charles Edward Sherman is remembered with great respect and affection by all who had the privilege to know him. His legacy endures in the skilled masonry that graces Nashville, in the hearts of the family and friends who cherished his company, and in the spirit of kindness and celebration he exemplified throughout his life.
He will be profoundly missed but forever celebrated for a life well lived. Services for Mr. Sherman are to be scheduled at a later date.
