Hawkins, Charles Ray, age 81, of Gallatin and Hendersonville died on October 22 at Hendersonville Hospital after several months of illness. Mr. Hawkins was co-owner of Hawkins Brothers Construction Company. Mr. Hawkins and his younger brother Dick established Hawkins Brothers Construction Company in Hendersonville in 1952. He remained actively involved in the business prior to a heart attack this past spring. He continued to take an interest in the business and contribute what he could to the end. Through the years, the company worked for a number of local developers and builders. They worked frequently with the Batey Brothers, Allen Bryan and John Riadon. Charles took pride in his company's work and wanted it done well. He leaves behind his wife Norma Shirley Hawkins, two daughters, Debra Hammers Joey of Gallatin and Leigh Anne Thomason of Hendersonville, a step-son from his first marriage, Gary Jones of Gallatin, a step-daughter Velma Paschall of Cleveland, Ohio and another step-son, Robert Paschall of Clover Bottom Developmental Center in Nashville. He leaves two grandchildren, Josh Hammers of Gallatin and Ashley Thomason of Hendersonville and three sisters Betty Wooten of Mount Juliet, Juanita Burwell Cell of Huntsville, Alabama and Fanny Fiole Ted of Hendersonville. Memorial services will be at Hendersonville Memory Gardens and Funeral Home at 353 East Main Street, Hendersonville on Monday October 31 at 11:00 Am. The family will receive friends from 9:00 Am until time for the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite charity will be appreciated. Bill Hix of Williamsburg, Virginia will deliver the eulogy.
