Goodlettsville

It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Billy R, Short, 76.  Billy went to rest on Sunday August 7th in Nashville, TN surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Huntsville, Alabama and was a loyal, unwavering Alabama fan, Roll Tide!  Billy loved music, the outdoors, fishing, hunting, boating, vintage cars, but especially travelling the U.S. in his motorcoach. After serving in the U.S. Army, Billy was a firefighter and a police officer in Atlanta, GA.  He later retired from the City of Atlanta Police Department.  He served as past Shriner President in Tomball, TX and has always been a passionate supporter of the Shriners Hospitals for Children.  Billy was a member of the DORIC Grand Free and Accepted Mason Lodge of TN #732.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and generous friend.  His passion and integrity to those he loved was unwavering.  A comment shared by many was “We always knew where we stood with Billy!”  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Diane K Short, who he affectionally called “Rosie”, his son Billy R. Short II (Lori), sister Evelyn Diane Matrose (Edward), grandchildren Maydson Nicole Short, Lana Alexander and Austin Alexander, and great grandchildren Greyson, Hudson, and Nora Alexander. He is preceded in death by his parents William and June Short of Lacy Springs, Alabama.

Billy requested to not have a funeral but to be cremated and scattered into the ocean so that his soul could travel the world.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children at donate.lovetotherescue.org/give

2 Corinthians 5: 1-2 For we know that when this tent we live in now is taken down - when we die and leave these bodies - we will have wonderful new bodies in heaven, homes that will be ours forevermore, made for us by God himself, and not by human hands. How weary we grow of our present bodies. That is why we look forward eagerly to the day when we shall have heavenly bodies which we shall put on like new clothes.
