Obituary

Barbara Freeman, a beloved matriarch and pillar of her family, passed away on February 12, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on September 10, 1937, Barbara led a life marked by her unwavering loyalty, kindness, and devotion to her family. As a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she took immense pride in the accomplishments of her family, affectionately known as “Memaw” to her grandchildren.

Barbara had a fruitful career at Cole and Garrett Funeral Home in Hendersonville, where she worked from 1991 until 2015. Her dedication and professionalism left a lasting impact on the community she served. Beyond her vocational contributions, she was a fantastic cook who loved family gatherings, often bringing loved ones together around her table. She was known for her fruitcake recipe that even non fruit cake eaters would enjoy.

An avid traveler, Barbara enjoyed spending time by the pool, where she cherished moments of relaxation. Socializing with friends and family brought her joy. She and her husband hosted and attended many Saturday night parties; including Elvis music, pants suits, and dancing. She also enjoyed sitting on her porch, soaking in the view of her farm. Being a city girl, she moved to the farm and became a country girl.

She was known for her friendly demeanor and was always a source of warmth and compassion to those around her.

Barbara is survived by her children, Russell Freeman (Gwen) and Sharon Bowden, along with nine cherished grandchildren: Brandon Bowden, Wesley Bowden (Amy), Maria Sofer (Mike), Forrest Freeman (Amery), Erin Floyd (Cole), Devin Park (Cullen), Heidi Stockford (David), Heather Stacey, and Danielle Sloan (James). She was also the proud grandmother of seventeen great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is remembered by her brother-in-law, Carl Freeman, and sister-in-law, Evadale Wayman.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ernest Freeman, her parents, Joseph Kubik and Marybelle Bolton, and her son-in-law, David Bowden.

A visitation to honor Barbara Freeman will take place on February 21, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Both events will be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Barbara Freeman will be profoundly missed, but her love, kindness, and vibrant spirit will forever remain in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

In lieu of flower donation may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
