Anna Joyce Anderson, lovingly known as Joyce, passed away peacefully at her home in Portland, Tennessee, on June 23, 2026. Born Anna Joyce Bumbalough on December 5, 1936, in Sparta, Tennessee, she was a beloved presence whose impact touched all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Joyce exemplified kindness, generosity, and a nurturing spirit. She and her husband owned and operated a ranch, dedicating themselves to the care and raising of racehorses. Their passion and commitment saw them at one point tending to nearly 120 horses, demonstrating not only hard work but also a deep love for animals and the rewarding challenges of farm life.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Joyce was a woman of many interests and joys. An avid sports enthusiast, she delighted in following various sports, counted herself as a devoted Michael Jordan fan, and rarely missed a Tennessee Titans football game. She recently found herself questioning what to watch next after March Madness ended. Her enthusiasm for athletic pursuits extended back to her youth, where she enjoyed rollerskating—a pastime with special significance, as it was at a local roller skating rink that she met her future husband.
Joyce’s sense of style and love of shopping were well known among her friends and family. She expressed herself through fashion and always enjoyed the experience of finding something new, embodying confidence and grace in her appearance.
The heart of Joyce’s life was her family, which she regarded as her proudest accomplishment. Her daughters remember the fresh cookies she would lovingly prepare for them each afternoon after school. Her loving and giving nature created lasting memories and deep bonds within her family. Joyce’s ability to live in the moment, maintain a laid-back demeanor, and offer unwavering support demonstrated her capacity to nurture those around her, providing a model of emotional generosity that uplifted all who were fortunate to know her.
Anna Joyce Anderson is preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Lela Bumbalough, her loving husband of over six decades Roger Anderson, and her siblings Wilma Jean Dingle, Nelda Kolentus, Brenda Kelley, Jim Bumbalough, and Mike Bumbalough. She is survived by her daughters Teresa Najar and Kim Bush, her grandchildren Travis Ellis, Jessica Najar (Nick Dillard), Justin Bush, Josh Bush (Hanna), and Kyle Bush. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Holland Bush and Joslin Bush, many nieces and nephews, and her fur babies, Champ and Teddy, the Shih Tzu dogs.
Those wishing to pay their respects to Joyce Anderson are invited to attend the visitation on June 27, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home and Cremation Services in White House, Tennessee, located at 212 Highway 76. This will be followed by a funeral service at the same location beginning at 1:00 PM. Joyce will be laid to rest at White House Memorial Gardens, 3639 US-31W, White House, TN 37188, with the burial service commencing at 2:00 PM.
