Thomas Walter Batey, age 88, passed away October 18, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Walter Batey, and Sarah Christine Traylor Batey; brothers Edwin Batey and Benjamin Batey. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Nan Batey; children, Walter Traylor (Darlene) Batey, James Thomas (Tracey) Batey, Martha Christine (Vince) Batey-Hicks; grandchildren, Gray Batey, Amy Batey, Brooke Batey; brother Charles Batey. Mr. Batey owned and operated Batey Construction in Hendersonville for more than 50 years. He also loved travelling, photography, and was particularly proud of his black angus cows. A visitation will be at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville Tuesday October 22 from 1-6 pm. A private family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Highpoint Hospice or Whispering Pines Christian Camp.

    We were honored and blessed to have known Tom Batey. A good heart has stopped beating, a good soul ascended to heaven. We pray that our Lord brings you and your family the much-needed peace during this sad time.

    I am proud to call Tom a friend as well as an employer. We worked together many years and had a great relationship. He will be missed by many.

    I am thinking of you Nan and your family and sending love and prayers from Texas! The ladies at Gallatin Public Library will miss Tom and his many visits to check out his favorite audio books. He was a special patron who could always get their good service even without his library card. Love you, Nan.
