Richard Herman McMurtry (Hendersonville Tn) Passed away on April 13, 2019. He was well known in the local car racing community for having great mechanical knowledge and fabrication skills. He worked at Nashville Marine and Machine for several years before turning to car racing full time. The shop he had in his backyard produced many winning cars for dirt, asphalt and drag racing. He could always be found sitting in the shop next to the woodstove, a cup of coffee in one hand and a cigarette in the other. He was proceeded in death by his wife Donna (Coggins) McMurtry and their son Richard (Ricky) Herman McMurtry Jr. and both parents Ruth (Watkins) and Herman D McMurtry. He is survived by his sister Mary Jo (Larry) McElyea and niece Marcessa (Brian) Palmer and numerous caring friends. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering on Sunday April 28, 2019 from 3:00 to 5:30 at the Long Hollow Jamboree at 3600 Long Hollow Pike Goodlettesville Tn. In lieu of flowers a contribution to the Alzheimers Assoc.at https://act.alz.org/donate is greatly appreciated.
