Mike and my son Tracy were friends for many many years. Both graduated from Madison High School. What a fine young man he was. The Todd family is so proud that Mike and his family have been a part of our lives.

Throughout this year I feel so blessed to have gotten to know Sam’s family. During the parent-teacher conference night in the fall, my most memorable conversation came from meeting Sam’s parents. Sharing our similar walks in life and learning that his mom is a former Brentwood Bruin like myself definitely made me smile. I felt so special that his dad made it all the way down the long hallway to meet me, Sam’s English teacher.

However, one of my favorite memories of Mike was when he came to pick up Sam early one day during our exam week in December. I asked him if he and Sam were going out of town or had a doctor’s appointment, and he just looked at me with a tinkle in his eye and said that he was feeling so well that day that he wanted to spend time with his son. My heart became so warm, and I felt privileged to know a parent that loved his child as much as he loved Sam.

Whenever I think about Mike I will remember his perservence and his determination. Although I only knew him a short time, I know he was grateful to have loved his community, my students and especially his family even if it was for only a short time.

Since Sam shared your family’s journey with me, I have been praying and thinking about you all constantly. I know that you find comfort in knowing that his suffering is over and his time with our Lord has begun. My mom is up there showing him around I am sure! Please don’t hesitate to let Sam’s teachers, administrators and staff know if you all need anything.
