I used to jam with Carl every Sunday night at the Station Inn while I’ll lived in Nashville. One night I asked him what he did for a living and he told me he used to square dance! He turned around and walked around in a square and said, “There’s your square dance!”
Another night we were jamming out at the Gibson showcase out in Opry Mills when they used to have that. I had been wanting to learn some standard tunes and he taught me how to play Big Sandy River. I will be playing a gig tomorrow night and will play it in is honor. I wish I could make it up for the service. I will always remember Carl as a good friend and someone I could always count on for a warm friendly smile when I saw him. Rest in peace my fiddle friend!

We first meet Carl at Long Hollow Pike Jamboree. He was playing fiddle for Bill Monroe. We use to jam with him at fiddle contest. He was a great fiddler. We will miss his smileing face and all the great times. RIP

To The Franklin Family,
We have been neighbors quite a few years and we will always remember Carl for his spirit of giving. No questions asked, Carl came and put in a railing for me, John, back in 2003 when I had a serious car accident. We will always remember his kind deed and we will miss the waves as he drove by daily in his vehicle.
Especially to Diann, our prayers will continue for each of you during such a difficult time, but through faith and understanding, we all know that Carl is certainly at rest and in a much better place with so much joy and peace.
Our sympathy and love,
John, Joan and Brandon Hirsch 112 Neighbors

Words can’t describe the depth of loss I personally feel but also total empathy and compassion for Dianne in this time of tragedy. I have known Carl for many years and played with him in too many situations to count. I thank him most for being part of the best band I ever have or probably ever will play in. No, on second thought, I thank him most for just being a friend and for sharing his wonderfully wry sense of humor every time I was ever around him. He was more than just a great musician and will obviously be missed terribly by not only those who were fortunate enough to know him musically but also others he touched on a daily basis. Rest in Peace, my friend, and keep the angels dancing until the rest of us get there!

It was always good to see Carl and get to pick with him at contests or jamming. We played together for about 4 years in the Valley Grass Express Band and recorded a CD. That was an enjoyable 4 years and everytime we had a chance to after then. My condolences to Diane and the rest of the family.

I am going to miss his friendship, and his help on how to fix things to make them work. Very quite, and enjoyable to be around. He was the kind of neighbor everyone wants.

I remember the first time I met Carl when we played a gig together in the mid 70’S. He was really getting going on fiddle as I was on banjo. Through the years I came to cherish our friendship and looked forward to picking and visiting with him. I truly will miss him.
Thoughts and prayers to Dianne and family.

Carl – I will never forget you and will always be grateful to have had a wonderful picking buddy as you. I can only hope that you can see this and that you know how many people you blessed with your talent and friendship. Thanks for all of the laughs, the Marlboro hangs and the good jams. You will be greatly missed.
