Madean Burnette

Madean Wilson Burnette, age 81 passed away April 29, 2022. She was born in Murfreesboro, TN on March 29, 1941 to Fred Dillard Wilson and Mai Frances Dillon Wilson.  She spent her early years in her hometown of Walter Hill, TN until the family moved to Goodlettsville, TN.  She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brothers, Bobby Wilson and Jimmy Wilson; sister Pam Wilson Morris; her husband Lawrence “Bear” Burnette and her longtime partner, Ralph Floyd.

Madean is survived by her daughters, Kelly Burnette Smith (Tim) and Karen Burnette Hargrove (Danny); her beloved grandchildren, Kelsey Smith and Danielle Smith Barrett (Johnathon); niece Amanda Wilson Cochran (Kent); along with many other nieces, nephews,  cousins and friends; and her little dog, Maggie May.

Madean graduated from Goodlettsville High School in 1959.  She was a member of the women’s basketball team that went on to win the NIL Championship in her senior year, back in the days when women only played half court.  She loved her teammates and has enjoyed a lifetime friendship with many of them.

A visitation will be held at Cole & Garrett, 127 N. Main St., in Goodlettsville, on May 7 from 11 to 1, with a Celebration of Life to follow, beginning at 1 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Alive Hospice.
